Molecular Sieve

Description:

4A molecular sieve is primarily used for removing moisture from liquefied gaseous materials. Advantages are consistent adsorption speed, higher contamination resistance, stronger crushing increasing cyclic times for extended product life.
4A molecular sieve has a pore size of 4A or 4 angstrom. Any molecule larger than 4A will not be able to be adsorbed. 4 Angstroms are the sodium forms of the Type A crystal structure. The sequence rate of adsorption is argon, krypton, xenon, ammonia, carbon monoxide, C2H4, C2H2, CH3OH, C2H5OH, CH3CN2, CS2, CH3CL, CH3Br, and carbon dioxide.
The advantages of our high quality 4A mole sieve are consistent adsorption speed, and higher contamination resistance, stronger crushing increasing cyclic times which provide an extended product life. 4A Molecular Sieve is primarily for removing moisture from liquefied and gaseous materials.

Yarn Fibers

Murray Fabrics knits tubing out of a wide variety of yarns to fit each customer's individual needs. The different fibers can be used for corrosive situations whether you are dealing with chemicals, extreme temperatures, or fire safety, as well as simple filtration.

Fabric Type

Characteristics

PolypropyleneOffers good tensile strength and abrasion resistance. They perform well in organic and mineral acids, solvents and alkalies. Polypropylene is attacked by nitric and chlorosulphonic acids, sodium and potassium hydroxide at high temperatures and concentrations. 

pH range: 2-12
Temperature: up to 190° F
PolyesterOffers good resistance to most acids, oxidizing agents and organic solvents. Concentrated sulfuric and nitric acids are the exception. Polyesters are dissolved by alkalies at high concentrations.

pH range: 2-9
Temperature: up to 325° F
NylonGood tensile strength and alkali resistance but is degraded by mineral acids and oxidizing agents. This reaction is accelerated at high concentrations and temperatures.

pH range: 2-8
Temperature: up to 250° F
CottonGood abrasion resistance and mechanical strength. It is, however, subject to rot, mildew and shrinkage. 

pH range:
 3-10
Temperature: up to 225° F
AcrylicThe resistance of acrylic fibers is excellent in organic solvents, good in oxidizing agents, minerals and organic acids and fair in alkali. Will dissolve in sulfuric acid concentrations. 

pH range: 
4-5 *Subject to other variables 
Temperature: 260 to 280°F / 125 to 135°C
Nomex*Resist attack by mild acids, mild alkalies and most hydrocarbons.  Resistance to sulfur oxides above the acid dew point at temperatures above 300°F is better than polyester.  Flex resistance is excellent. 

pH range:  
2 - 12
Temperature: up to 425°F
Kevlar*
Kevlar (aramid yarn) is chemically stable under a wide variety of exposure conditions; however, certain strong acids and bases can cause degradation, particularly over long periods of time and at elevated temperatures.
pH range: 5-7 
Temperature: Max operating temp 300-500°F / 149-260°C
(Does not melt until over 800°F / 427°C)
Stock Yarns: cotton, polyester, polypropylene, nylon, acrylic
Special Order Yarns: We can provide Kevlar, Nomex, flame retardant, polyester/cotton blend.
Quantity: Tubing is sold by the pound and is measured by flat width and stretch.

Pleated Filters

Segmented Filtration

MicroPure is a leader in Segmented Filters. They use a sandwich technique to self-seal filter media between specially designed segments of stainless steel, once they are clamped securely with a tension rod that connects the end segments forming the cartridge.

Looking at the cut-out; air, gas, or liquids flow into the openings on the outside of a segment, They then pass through the filter material and into the next segment. The filtered air, gas or liquid then exits through the center of the filter and out of the filter housing.

Industrial Knitted Tubing

I've been talking a lot about the traditional filters, those filters that attach to something, are part of something, are high tech, sterile, or so many other types of filters. However there's another filter that I'd like to add to my blog; Knitted Tubing.

Although knitted tubing may be part of the many other filters, such as the covering on pleated filters, it it one of those very simple designs that are completely versatile and inexpensive. Also called stockinette, knitted tubing can make your more advanced filters last longer by catching the large particles before they get to the fine filtration.

But that's not it! Here are some examples of other knitted tubing uses:
  • Chemical - chemical manufacturers use tubing to purify product throughout process
  • Fire Safety - flame retardant sleeves and cuffs as protective layers
  • Medical - non-sterile utility items
  • Filtration - filter bags, filter tubing, and filter covers
  • Paint - manufacturers use long filter bags to remove paint particulate before packaging
  • Paint spray booths - protective sleeve, cap, or skin cover
  • Manufacturing plants - use abrasion resistant sleeves to protect employees

Sludge Blowdown System

Sludge Blowdown System:

This tool is designed to monitor the time the Clarifier is in use. For example; when the pump that feeds the waste stream leading into the Clarifier, is turned on the timer is timing. After the predetermined time has elapsed, the controller will automatically open the discharge valve and activate the discharge pump to the sludge thickening tank, and then automatically turn off the pump and close the valve. The time elapsed is based on the clarifier, the waste water, and the sludge.

System includes: sludge valve, air valve and control panel with timers and cast iron diaphragm pump.

Fullers Earth Estimation:

So how much? That's always the question they ask. But are you not sure how much Fullers Earth you need? We found this chart that estimates the amount of fullers earth by weight that is required per gallon of oil to be processed.

This handy chart provides a means of estimating the amount of fullers earth you need, by weight, all you need to know is the amount of oil to be processed!


What is Fuller’s Earth?

Fullers Earth is Activated Clay, commonly used to remove surfactants and additives from fuel oils including jet fuel, kerosene, and diesel. It also removes products of oxidation and acids from hydraulic and lube oils. Bulk Fuller's Earth can be used at airports, in refineries, transformer repair shops, and other industries.

What to do when your filter media is blinding and you can’t filter

In a perfect world filter cloth would hold the particles it's meant to filter and those particles would in turn help to filter the rest of the particles until the filter was full. However, that doesn't always happen. Sometimes the particles clog the material also known as "blinding the media". This results in your filter media no longer filtering.

There are a few reasons this might happen:

  1. The Media itself might not be a good fit for your application. The weave may be too tight, or too loose, the material might be the problem and a mono/multifilament might be the answer. For more information on material choice >>
  2. The media might need to be pre-coated prior to running the solution. The use of a porous "sludge" gets the media ready for the actual filtration of your media. To learn more about pre-coating >>
  3. Similar to pre-coating, a process called Body Feed may be used. This take a porous material and mixes it with the media being filtered. Acting similarly to the pre-coat, this added material keeps the media from blinding. Learn more about body feed >>
 Although this may give you some good ideas, it is always best to consult an expert to help solve your filtration needs.

A Sketch of Polypropylene Textile Cloths

Although there are a lot of fibers to choose from, one of the most popular fibers used in manufacturing fabric today is polypropylene.

This versatile fiber can be woven into a variety of thread counts to allow from loose to tight filtration applications. It is good for use in temperatures from 50°F to 180°F  - Specification charts sometimes show it being use up to 250°F! However, Wally said he "would not recommend it" unless it was under specific circumstances.  Another benefit of polypropylene is it's acceptable pH can range all the way from 2- 12! Another major thumbs up  Polypropylene can be woven into a variety of cloth and cloth types allowing users to filter out the water or the baby!
